A New Family Member

Such is the life in Southeast Louisiana. As soon as the end of May nears, we start thinking about hurricane season. We bought a generator in Houston while we were evacuated for Katrina. Phillip used it when he had gone back to check on the house and his office. It was a cheapish model and served its purpose briefly. We bought a second generator year before last. It was used last year when Gustav blew through. It was tossed around a bit when the small tornado ripped though the back yard. Phillip tried to get it up and running for this season. It was not cooperating. He has tried everything and Bill, our next door neighbor, came over to lend his expertise. Nope, nothing, nada.

We headed over to Lowe's and bought another generator. You really don't want to go too long without power. Trust me on this. Hopefully, it will be easier to put together than the last one.

Added 7/6/09 Phillip decided to take the air filter out of the old one and rinse and let it dry as a last resort. He is convinced that the old generator started up right a way because it saw the handwriting on the wall with the new generator sitting next to it.

Waterproofing the Deck

Phillip decided this was the weekend to seal the deck. I wonder why he chooses to do this in the summer, and not only that...he waits until mid day to do it. He doesn't feel the heat like I do, but I think this time he did. I question why he doesn't get up early to do work outside. He tells me he will do things on his time. OK...it is just painful to watch him outside working in the heat when the heat index is around 110 degrees.

He did stop long enough to come in to get some water and to tell me to come and take his picture for the blog.

The Cherry on the Cake

Just like the day we went to see the Devil Rays, today's Picture of the Day had some discussion. This trip had a lot of funny moments from Phillip getting so excited about free orange juice at the Florida Welcome Center, that he took the weigh station exit instead, to what happened this morning. We are a family of night owls. We hit our stride from 11:00 pm on, so getting up early to leave for home is accompanied by some complaining and some slow thinking. Someone (no one is claiming it) caused the toilet to overflow. For a brief time, the girls and I were not wake enough to do anything other than stare. Thankfully, Phillip, AKA Mr. Fix-It, was there to save the day and turn the water off. The females in this family were truly pitiful at this time. Of course, I took a picture and everyone wanted me to put that picture up as today's picture. Since this is my blog, I vetoed that, but put a portion of the picture up. It is to remind us of the great time we had, all of the laughter we shared, and how we love each other so much.

The Dryer

For about a month, the dryer has been giving me a little trouble. I have been fiddling with the knobs and that had seemed to have worked. On Thursday, my fixes were no longer working. I mentioned to Phillip that I would be calling the repairman. He said he wanted to look at it. "Mr. Fix-It", as he refers to himself, is not all that handy. He has a lot of great skills, but fixing stuff is not one of his greatest skills. He goes and looks at it, and later comes to me and announces proudly, "Mr. Fix-It has done it again!" I go and look. This is the fix. I have to say it does work for about 12-20 minutes at a time. I can only coax it to work about half of the time, so I have to frequently call "Mr. Fix-It" to come and do his magic. He said that as long as he has rubber bands and knobs, all will be well.
