Enough. With. The. Hats. Already!

I was able to complete one last hat last night for Children's Hospital patients. Another gaping hole in my hat series is a black and gold hat in honor of the Saints. This whole place is going nuts over the Saints being 9-0. Who would have ever thought the Saints could be doing so well. It is mind boggling to me.

Did I Hear You Correctly? More hats?

Robyn and Michael are taking hats over to Children's Hospital for me after Thanksgiving. I decided to crank out a couple more before they go. You know I love my LSU Tigers. When I was growing up and first moved to Louisiana, the thought of purple and gold together was hideous. Now that I am older and wiser, purple and gold hold a piece of my heart. I had not knitted a hat with these colors together yet, so I had to rectify that omission. I love the thought of a child somewhere rooting on the Tigers wearing this hat.

More Hats for Donate

Robyn and Michael are going to Children's Hospital right after Thanksgiving to drop off the animals she has knitted and the hats I have made. I have been focusing on adult sized hats, so I am switching back to a slightly smaller "teen" size. I found the multi colored yarn in Lafayette when we went over there to look at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. I could not pass it up. It was fun. I have it in a solid pink too. A little goes a long way, so I will have a lot to spread around.

Robyn's Knitted Zoo

Robyn has been knitting some really cute animals lately. She has created a wolf, a bunny and a tiger. I love how they turn out. Each one has its own personality. She plans to donate them to Children's Hospital in New Orleans. I know they will love them. You can see her "softies" here.

Hats, Hats, Hats

I finished my 12th hat today and I plan to drop them off at Children's Hospital tomorrow. When they are all lined up, I am glad to see there are several different color choices available. I was worried I was doing too much pink. As soon as I finish one, I am itching to start another. I still have a ton of yarn to use and lots of color combinations. The last hat I completed has been my favorite (it is on the far right). It is turquoise with a lime green/multi-color strand striping in 3 times. Since I knit the stripes with 3 strands (2 turquoise and 1 lime green/multi) of yarn, the stripes are more subtle. I have many scrapbook summer pages using turquoise, lime, bright yellow and hot pink. I have always loved those colors together. I am excited about taking my babies to the hospital. Hopefully, they will be the perfect size for someone in need.

P.S. I noticed after I posted this picture that I had only 11 hats in the picture. One was still in the house. Math is not my strong point.

Number 10

For the past month and a half, I have been on a roll knitting hats to donate to the cancer patients at Children's Hospital in New Orleans. When Jonathan was undergoing chemo, the hospital had lots of hats for young children, but few in teen sizes. In fact there were none at all for boys. So I am focusing all of my knitting on the older child size and making sure to do some in "manly" colors. I am drawn to the brights, pinks, reds, and purples, so I have to make a conscious effort to buy yarn in colors a guy would wear. I hope I have chosen colors that would have made Jonathan proud.

Working the Needles

Lately I have been knitting up a storm. I really am loving it. I posted about it twice already here and here. I have found a pattern that is easy for me and one I can adapt in size, texture and color. The last two hats I knitted, I used bamboo circular needles. It was ok for one of the hats. That yarn was a little slippery and moved easily on the needles. The last hat I completed, I did not like the bamboo needles. I am not real thrilled with the yarn either. I bought some new nickel circulars and as now using them on this new hat. It is making a big difference. I am using the same yarn as the previous hat, but the new needles are making it easier to knit with it.

I am making these hats to donate to Children's Hospital in New Orleans. Robyn's best friend, Jonathan, lost his battle with brain cancer in December. He spent some time in Children's Hospital during part of his treatment. He was a wonderful person and is greatly missed. You can follow my progress on my hats by looking at the little graphic on the sidebar. I will update it with the latest number of hats completed...in case anyone is interested.
