First Day of School

School started today. Why does it have to start so early in August? The school board needs to check with me. Single digit dates in August is way too soon. Cara is now an upperclassman at her school. Seeing that there are only two grades at the school leaves upper or lower. I cannot believe she will be in high school next year. I am having a really hard time getting my head around that.

Top Dog

Being a Senior brings some new activities. One is called Top Dog/Little Dog. The Seniors adopt a Freshman homeroom and do little things for them during the year. There are also other activities they can participate in individually too. Robyn and Shelby spent the afternoon putting together goodie bags for their chosen homeroom. I guess going to school is like a party and you get a goodie bag.

Friday Filing

On Friday mornings, I help Cara's homeroom teacher by filing the week's papers into the take home folders.  I have done this for her teachers for the past 3 years.  It is an activity I enjoy.  I get to know a little about the students in Cara's class, while sitting in the back of the class filing away.  I also get to watch Cara "in action".   She is pretty much as I expected...paying attention sometimes and sometimes not.  Her teacher moves the students to new locations quite frequently.  It is interesting to see who she is sitting by and to be able to put a face with a name I hear from her class stories.  Filing usually takes from 30 minutes to an hour and I am happy to be able to free up the teacher from that task.

Class Sitting

Today I performed "class sitting" duties for Cara's class. Her teacher was judging the science fair entries, so I was needed for around 3 hours. It was interesting to watch the kids. I took them to the computer lab and then back to class. They were supposed to work on math and science pages while the teacher was gone. Looking around the classroom, I think a lot them will have homework tonight. This picture was taken while we were in the computer lab. I especially love the "no whining" sign.
